Album Cover

The goal of this album cover project was to explore creative typography and type hierarchy while telling a visual story that reflects the album’s meaning. Mac Miller’s Swimming centers on self-love, healing, and pushing through life’s struggles. The cover design conveys motion through warped, wave-like typography of the title “Swimming.” Inspired by Mac Miller’s funky, chill, and playful style, the design incorporates soft elements such as clouds, blues, pinks, yellows, and flowers to create a calm, yet vibrant atmosphere. Playful details—such as the artist wearing only one shoe (with the other shoe on the back cover), and flowers emerging from a joint—add personality. A sky reflection of the artist creates an illusionistic effect that adds contrast and depth. Overall, the design of the album cover, label, and zoetrope forms a cohesive visual system, using harmonious elements to reflect the tone and message of the music.
